I had a series of appearances on a case in the Bronx with his firm earlier this month. Judge Frishman ended up giving me an order of preclusion for offering testimony at trial on liability/damages after Redmond violated a conditional preclusion order for not giving me BPs by a certain date. Because the part has been having issues with Redmonds firm for this type of thing, Redmond himself was ordered to appear for the next conference.
Redmond actually appeared and was given an opportunity to (unsuccessfully) explain missing the deadline. He was unimpressive here as well. This, I believe, was all a pretense to get him in the part as he was then taken to the back to talk privately about a separate matter, presumably about ongoing issues with his firm and possibly to dress him down outside of defense counsels presence. I dont know what was said, but I can say hes on Frishmans radar. I also found a number of orders of preclusion that became absolute in Kings County too.
He plays up the fact that hes a solo practitioner to excuse his defaults, yet hes filing approximately 3 new cases per day and 50 new cases per month despite not getting to stuff on his backlog of pending cases. Also, the S&Cs all follow the same format, and in my opinion, often merely contain descriptions of the claims using language that a client would have used (e.g., botched foot surgery causing the foot to point out). I dont know how he could find the time to do intake on all these cases, consult an expert (at least on the mals), oversee the paralegal staff who prepare his discovery and oppose substantive motions, and ultimately prepare for and go to trial.

I have several cases with him; my associate has been to court and has seen him in person at least once and maybe a handful of times. Im told he does not make his presence known, steps up to see the clerk only when the case is called and only for a moment and then bolts out of the courtroom as quickly as possible. He literally ran away when she tried to talk to him afterward. Bizarre.

Thanks Paul. I have the same impression of Mr. Redmond. He tells me he is swamped with 1400 cases running a solo practice with multiple paralegals and per diems who do work for him. Wonder how he manages it all. He asked yesterday for a long adjournment of a trial in Westchester (to November) with several b.s. excuses as to why he could not be ready sooner on a case he took over from other counsel who withdrew after a Note of Issue was filed a couple of years ago. Has anyone seen him on trial? Has he done any defendant physician depositions or does he leave them to his per diems?
